LET’S CELEBRATE HENRY WRIGHT

HENRY WRIGHT PARK
(Located between 6422 and 6430 Alamo Avenue)
In May 2005 a new historic district was placed in the United States Government’s National Register of Historic Places. That district now includes four subdivisions. These subdivisions are HiPointe Subdivision, De Mun Park Subdivision, HiPointe Addition Subdivision and Tuscany Park Subdivision.
To the volunteer researchers for these huge documents, it was a wonderful surprise to learn that the neighborhood that we all love was carefully planned by a young genius named Henry Wright. This wonderful concept of livable, natural but densely populated spaces designed as a cradle-to-grave, mixed class community was heralded as the “New Town Movement”. Young Mr. Wright’s work arguably was responsible for or was copied by others to create all of the beauty and livability that drew all of us here to live on the border of his innovative design work in Forest Park. The site of his Spanish Influence World’s Fair Pavilion is being renovated by Forest Park Forever as we speak. His reputation is rightly international in scope. He is a true VIP.
Of ALL of the listings in the United States Government’s National Register of Historic Places for the County of Saint Louis, there are only two others that have received higher honors than the HiPointe/De Mun National Historic District. They are the home of former United States President Ulysses S. Grant and the original structures of Washington University’s Danforth (formerly Hilltop) Campus. So, it is only natural that the City of Clayton should wish to acknowledge this most wonderful place and its carefully crafted lifestyle in a tangible way.
Therefore, please join the Mayor, Aldermen, their guests and your neighbors to show support for the work of this internationally acclaimed genius, the efforts of your neighbors, and to celebrate the dedication of the former Alamo Park to:
